SBI, DAY-NRLM to facilitate venture financing for rural SHG women.

Additional Secretary Charanjit Singh and Chief General Manager, SBI Shantanu Pendse signed the MoU on ‘Swayam Siddha’ financial product for SHG women-led enterprises in rural India.

The MoU purposes to empower 2 crore Lakhpati Didis from SHG women.

The “Swayam Siddha” SHG by SBI is designed for women entrepreneurs, offering loans up to Rs 5 lakh and an easy documentation process.


AFMS, AIIMS Delhi collaborate to conduct joint research projects.

Armed Forces Medical Services (AFMS) and AIIMS, New Delhi signed an MoU for cooperation in research, academic activities and resolution of scientific issues.

The objective of the agreement is to explore joint research projects and educational activities and to facilitate a faculty exchange programme.

Its objective is to identify and promote potential collaboration in health care and research.


Report on Gender-Inclusive Framework for Cross-Border Trade in India.

Land Ports Authority of India (LPAI) released a report on ‘Promotion of Land Ports in India’ in New Delhi.

It aims to develop a framework for gender-inclusive cross-border trade and tourism through land ports.

LPAI President Aditya Mishra stressed on implementing the report’s recommendations to create a gender-neutral environment at land ports.


FIH signs four-year media rights agreement with Viacom18.

The International Hockey Federation (FIH) signed a four-year media rights agreement with Viacom18 from 2023 to 2027.

The deal covers all FIH events except the FIH Nations Cup.

Viacom18 will broadcast and stream key events including the FIH Hockey Olympic Qualifiers, FIH Hockey5s World Cup, FIH Hockey Pro League and the 2026 FIH Hockey World Cup on Sports18 and JioCinema.


India to chair and host UNESCO World Heritage Committee in 2024.

India is set to chair and host the UNESCO World Heritage Committee in New Delhi from July 21 to 31, 2024.

This is the first time that India will lead this committee, which is an important recognition of its cultural and natural heritage.

The decision was taken at the 19th extraordinary session of UNESCO in 2023, following India’s proposal and consultation with the UNESCO Director-General.


PM to instate 27th National Youth Festival in Nashik, Maharashtra.

PM Modi will inaugurate the 27th National Youth Festival in Nashik on January 12 and address the youth of the country.

More than 88,000 MY Bharat volunteers participate in the National Youth Day celebrated on the birth anniversary of Swami Vivekananda.

Volunteers will organize road safety awareness programmes, visit Anganwadi centers for storytelling sessions and disseminate information about government schemes.


LIC to obtain 10% pale in National Housing Board-promoted company.

LIC’s board approved acquiring up to 10% stake in the company promoted by National Housing Bank (NHB) for residential mortgage-backed securities.

The investment will be made through equity contribution in one or more installments.

LIC already has a housing finance subsidiary, LIC Housing Finance Limited, which went public in 1994 and is listed on the NSE and BSE.

Global unemployment to reach 5.2% in 2024: ILO report.

The International Labor Organization estimates that the global unemployment rate will rise modestly to 5.2% in 2024.

This growth is attributed to rising unemployment in advanced economies.

The report particularly highlights concerns in high-income countries, where employment growth is expected to be negative in 2024, with only a modest improvement expected in 2025.



Sameer Kumar Sinha (IAS) appointed as Director General (Acquisition) in the Ministry of Defense.

Sameer Kumar Sinha, a 1994 batch IAS officer, was appointed Additional Secretary and Director General (Acquisition) in the Defense Ministry.

The move is part of a bureaucratic reshuffle by the Centre, which has been approved by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet.

Sinha, an Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer from the 1994 batch, is presently fulfilling his duties within the Assam-Meghalaya cadre.


India’s Antarctic expedition has been joined by scientists from Bangladesh and Mauritius.

 Scientists from Mauritius and Bangladesh have joined India’s Antarctic expedition at the Bharati Research Centre.

Their participation is part of the Colombo Security Conclave initiative, which includes India, Sri Lanka, Maldives, Mauritius with Bangladesh and Seychelles as observers.

The collaborative research in polar science will last for three to four months, focusing on a variety of topics.
