Chilla-e-Kalan: Kashmir’s worst 40-day winter period begins

The severe winter period, ‘Chilla-e-Kalan’, begins in Kashmir, with temperatures dropping below the freezing point in many areas.

Places like Srinagar, Pahalgam, Gulmarg, Qazigund and Kokernag are experiencing severe cold, resulting in freezing of many slow-moving water bodies.

This harsh period, known for substantial temperature drop and cold waves, is expected to last till January 31.

The updated law contains 358 sections, including provisions for 21 new offences, tougher penalties and community service penalties.

Central Railway launches ‘panic button’ security facility for women

Red push buttons installed inside each of the four ladies coaches will trigger alerts in case of an emergency.

Until this establishment, women were dependent on helpline calls, SMS or chain-pulling in case of emergencies.

Pressing the button located next to the alarm chain will activate an audio and visual signal on the flasher units outside the coach, alerting the platform staff and fellow passengers.
