RailTel to operate integrated tunnel communication system

RailTel is set to implement an integrated tunnel communication system along the new Bhairabi-Sairang single line section of the Northeast Frontier Railway.

RailTel will also provide emergency call system in tunnels and integrated passenger information system at railway stations on this route.

The cost of this project is Rs 66.83 crore, with a total length of approximately 12.643 kilometres.


Union Minister announces 48.3 GW new solar PV Module manufacturing announced

The National Solar Mission aims to increase the target of generating 20k MW solar power five times to 1,00,000 MW by 2022.

Measures to increase renewable energy share include 100% FDI permission, ISTS fee waiver and launch of Green Term Ahead Market.

This includes development of solar parks and ultra-mega projects and high-efficiency solar PV. A production linked incentive scheme for modules is also included.


Bihar Police will start ‘Mission Investigation  75 days’

Bihar Police will order investigators to complete the investigation of the case within 75 days of registration of FIR from January 1, 2024.

Performance appraisal of all police stations and district police will start on monthly basis from the same date.

These initiatives are part of the Bihar government’s effort to promote a more people-friendly and accountable police service.


Coal-based power generation in India increased by more than 8%

There is a significant increase in domestic coal-based power generation to about 780 billion units between April and November 2023.

Compared to the previous year, there was a 44% decline in coal imports for blending, falling to more than 15 MT.

The Coal Ministry aims to increase coal production to increase availability and reduce dependence on imported coal.


Charan Singh: Farmer leader and supporter of land reforms

Charan Singh was the Prime Minister of India from 1979–1980.

His commitment to land reforms and the fight against exploitation by rich landowners or zamindars exposed deeper issues within India’s rural economy.

Through publications such as ‘Abolition of Landlordism’ and ‘India’s Poverty and Its Solutions’, Singh tried to shed light on the essential issues faced by farmers.

ISRO’s Aditya-L1 mission ready to reach destination

Somnath confirmed that India’s first solar mission, Aditya-L1, is expected to reach the Lagrangian point (L1) on January 6.

Once at L1, Aditya-L1 will study and measure solar phenomena for the next five years, and provide valuable data.

Somnath also revealed ISRO’s plan to build an Indian Space Station, ‘Indian Space Station’ as a technologically powerful country.


UN declares 2024 as International Year of Camels

It recognized the important role of camelids such as alpacas and dromedaries in nutrition, food security and economic development.

These organisms are vital to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals, providing resources such as milk, meat, fiber and transportation.

It aims to enhance the potential of Camelids while advocating further research, investment and innovation in the sector.


UNSC adopts resolution for uninterrupted aid delivery in Gaza Strip

The United Nations Security Council passed a resolution demanding unhindered humanitarian aid delivery to the Gaza Strip.

The resolution received 13 votes in favor, while the US and Russia abstained and none opposed.

The resolution called for creating conditions for a permanent cessation of hostilities amid the Israel-Hamas conflict.


National Farmers’ Day 2023 celebrated globally

National Farmers Day 2023 celebrated globally with ‘Delivering Smart Solutions for Sustainable Food Security and Resilience’ as the theme.

‘Farmers’ Day’ celebrated on 23 December honors Indian farmers and celebrates the birth anniversary of Chaudhary Charan Singh.

This day is especially popular in states like Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Punjab and Madhya Pradesh.


JioMart partners with DAY-NRLM to enable SHGs to sell products

The partnership aims to empower Self Help Groups under Deendayal Antyodaya Yojana-National Rural Livelihood Mission to expand their presence in the market through JioMart.

JioMart will provide comprehensive support for account setup, digital navigation, training and post-launch support to SHGs.

Women’s rights champion Dr. Mohini Giri dies at the age of 86

 Women’s rights activist Dr. Mohini Giri, who was the chairperson of the National Commission for Women, has passed away at the age of 86.

She founded the War Widows Association in 1972, and brought national and international attention to the often ignored issues faced by widows.

Her multifaceted contribution and continuous efforts for women empowerment earned her the Padma Bhushan in 2007.


NASA tests innovative 3D-printed rotating detonation rocket engine

NASA successfully tested a 3D-printed RDRE at its Marshall Space Flight Center.

The RDRE, an advancement in propulsion technology, completed the ‘Hot Fire Test’ with a 251 second burn, generating over 5800 pounds of thrust.

RDRE’s first hot fire test, in 2022, was a collaboration with In Space LLC and Purdue University, and involved the production of more than 4000 pounds of thrust.


New Indian High Commissioner Santosh Jha takes charge in Sri Lanka

He has started his official duty and presented his credentials to President Ranil Wickremesinghe.

Following Baglay’s new appointment as India’s High Commissioner to Australia, Jha replaced Gopal Baglay as High Commissioner to Sri Lanka.
