The 100th birth anniversary of Justice Konda Madhava Reddy was celebrated.

A special Indian postal cover commemorating the 100th birth anniversary of late Justice Konda Madhava Reddy was released by Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar.

Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan and Telangana High Court Chief Justice Alok Aradh were also present on the occasion.

Justice Reddy was born on August 15, 1872. He made valuable contributions to the justice and education system of India.

Justice Reddy’s life was centered on the idea of creating a society that is inclusive.

He also served as the Chief Justice of the Andhra Pradesh and Mumbai High Courts and the Governor of Maharashtra.

He is remembered among his peers as a soft-spoken, thoughtful, reflective man, fair and impartial with an innate sense of justice.

Justice Konda Madhava Reddy passed away on September 25, 1997, following a battle with non-Hodgkin lymphoma.

 

UGC has released draft guidelines on recognition of colleges.

The guidelines have been named “UGC (Recognition of Colleges under clause (f) of Section 2 of the UGC Act) Regulations, 2023”.

The draft guidelines will be applicable to colleges defined under the UGC Act.

The draft guidelines lay down the conditions for recognition of a college by the UGC.

According to the draft guidelines, the college seeking affiliation has to be declared a university under the provisions of the UGC (Affiliation of Colleges by Universities) Regulations.

According to the draft guidelines, a college seeking affiliation must comply with the provisions of the UGC Act.

It must offer degree or diploma awarding programs of at least one academic year.

For recognition, a college must submit the following documents to the UGC.

Documents related to year of establishment

Affiliation certificate issued by the university

Approval of statutory/regulatory body with an undertaking that the college is in compliance with all the provisions of the UGC Act

 

Former President of the European Union (EU) Commission Jacques Delors passed away.

Jacques Delors was a key figure in the creation of the euro currency.

Delors was a prominent figure in French politics. Delors was Minister of Finance under President François Mitterrand.

He served as the eighth head of the European Commission from 1985 to 1995.

Major events during this period included the creation of the Common Market and the implementation of the Schengen travel agreements.

Other major events during his tenure were the launch of the Erasmus student exchange program and the adoption of the euro as the bloc’s single currency.

 

Ayodhya International Airport will be named ‘Maharishi Valmiki International Airport Ayodhya Dham’.

PM Modi will inaugurate the newly constructed Ayodhya airport on December 30.

Ayodhya is preparing to welcome its inaugural international airport.Phase 1 of the airport has been developed at a cost of over Rs 1,450 crore.

The area of ​​its terminal building will be 6500 square meters. It will be equipped to serve approximately 10 lakh passengers annually.

Its interior is decorated with local art, paintings and frescoes depicting the life of Lord Shri Ram.

This terminal building is equipped with various sustainable features like insulated roof system, LED lighting system, rain water harvesting etc.

Qatar court lifts death sentence of 8 Indians.

On 28 December, Qatar’s Court of Appeal commuted his death sentence.

This is a first but important step towards providing relief to the families of eight former Indian Navy personnel sentenced to death in Qatar.

A detailed order from the Qatar court is awaited, but the Indian government said the sentences have been ‘reduced’.

The commutation of the death sentence is the first legal victory for New Delhi, nearly one and a half years after the detention and arrest of former Indian Navy personnel in Qatar.

All Indian civilian employees of Doha-based Dahra Global were taken into custody in August 2022.

 

UP government directed to implement green hydrogen policy to promote clean energy.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has issued instructions to officials to accelerate the formulation of a green hydrogen policy as a decisive step towards strengthening the state’s commitment to clean energy.

The objective of this policy is to encourage and facilitate companies engaged in this emerging sector, thereby providing maximum assistance to accelerate its growth.

Adityanath outlined a number of support measures to facilitate companies operating in this vital sector.

Peace agreement will be signed between ULFA, Assam government and the Centre.

This tripartite agreement between the Centre, the Government of Assam and the United Liberation Front of Assam (ULFA) aims to bring lasting peace in the North East region.

The MoU will be signed in the presence of Home Minister Amit Shah.

The pro-talk faction of the United Liberation Front of Assam (ULFA) will be part of the agreement.

More than a dozen top leaders of the pro-talk faction of ULFA headed by Arabinda Rajkhowa during the signing of the peace agreement.

The Indian Olympic Association (IOA) has formed an ad-hoc committee to oversee the operations of the WFI.

Asset quality of Indian banks improves to decade’s highest level: Trend and Progress of Banking in India Report.

The Reserve Bank of India released a report titled ‘Trends and Progress of Banking in India’.

According to the report, the gross non-performing asset (GNPA) ratio of Indian scheduled commercial banks (SCBs) has improved in the second quarter of this financial year.

According to the report, the consolidated balance sheet of SCBs is expected to grow by 12.2% in 2022-23.

Improvement in asset quality is measured by the GNPA ratio. SCB’s GNPA ratio reached decade low of 3.9% in March 2023.

Nearly 45% of the reduction in GNPA of SCBs is due to recovery and upgradation.

The combined balance sheet of urban co-operative banks is expected to increase by 2.3% in 2022-23.

Consolidated balance sheets of non-banking financial companies to grow by 14.8% in 2022-23.
